762. Public Service Announcement from MOV

I love you.  There, I said it.  I thought about waiting for you to say it first, but that seemed silly.  I love my readers!!!!!!!  And I love my commenters!!!!!!!!

Thank you to all of my new readers, and all of my long-term loyal readers.  I love you all.
Now, since I’ve said the special three little words to you, do you think we are on intimate enough terms that you might tell me if I had broccoli in my teeth?  You would tell me, right?

Well, in that case, I have something to tell you, too.  I noticed that you are following me, and I want to follow you back, but I can’t!  You didn’t put a link with your thumbnail sketch!
Now, if you have a distinctive blog name, like for example, “Sundaes on Saturdays,” then it is pretty easy for me to google it and find you.  However, if by your picture it merely says “Ann,” then guess what!  Not so easy to find you.

How long has this been going on for you?  For myself, I was without a link for almost two years.  Two years of stupidity, fixed in an instant when my brilliant bloggy pal Tracie (at Crack You Whip) was kind enough to set me straight.  So, I am paying it forward and setting YOU straight.
I know you are panicking right now (“Does she mean me?  I have the link, right?  She can’t mean me!”).  I do mean you.  And I am going to walk you through how to fix it.

(First, click on your thumbnail pic on someone’s blog you follow and see if it DOES come up with your link.  YOUR link, not the link to other blogs you follow.  If it does not, then follow these easy steps below to fix it right now.  It only takes a second.)
Step 1.  Click “Join this site” on some blog you want to follow (that you do not already follow).  To make this fast and painless, randomly choose someone from my 400 followers over there on the right.  ---->> yeah, one of them ---->>

Step 2.  When the screen pops up and says “follow blog,” do NOT click on it!  Instead, click on the button immediately to the right that says “More options.”
Step 3.  The more options screen will take you to a screen that says “Add links.”  Click on it!  Add your link!  Make sure you add the entire long name with the whole http thing, for example like this:

That’s it!  Aren’t you glad we can tell each other the truth?  (And the good news is:  it updates all your thumbnails pics on all your blogs you follow already, so you do not have to go back to other blogs and modify it or anything.  You are done!)
You're welcome.  And I can't wait to follow you back now!

    1. Hi Andrea,

You are not the only one. I estimate that 30% of bloggers do not have the link with their pic.

  5. Er...maybe I don't have this right. I just tried it on someone else's blog, and my link isn't coming up. Ugh (and confused). LOL

  7. Yeah, I had trouble following some blogs too. Sadly, I just clicked away and moved on. I really wanted to check out all 1800 blogs. I totally agree with bloggers categorizing their blogs. That would have been SOOOO helpful. I spent too much time clicking in and out of fantasy/YA blogs. Just not my thing.

    1. Mare Ball,

Are you my twin? I feel the same way. If I have to do a ton of detective work just to find the name of someone's blog to check out and potentially follow, I really do not have that kind of extra time. I might do a quick google, but that is about it.

And over the course of the A to Z Challenge, I (like you) also clicked in and out of various blogs that were styles of writing that were not my thing. I think it is like shopping: after 40-some-years, I know I look good in red and navy. I am never going to look good in yellow. I do not bother trying on yellow sweaters at the store, what is the point? Likewise, I like humor blogs and a few other categories, but there are some blogs that I would consider to be my "yellow sweater."

Thanks for reading my blog, and thanks for taking the time to comment!

  8. I tried your instructions, but it did not work for me. I found "Follow" but not "Follow Blog" and there was not a "More Options" place to click.

  9. Mine does work. It's right in the center, well sorta.
I'd never tell anyone about broccoli stuck in their teeth. I don't look at teeth.
On a darker note, if it annoyed me, and I liked the person just enough to not punch him/her in the face (you're way, WAY above that level), I'd use the back side of a hammer (used to take out nails) and take the affected teeth out.

  13. What a cool post! I love it when people share their "know how". This blogging thing seems to be a continuing series of trial and error for me. Heavy on the errors part.

    1. You should have seen me when I started-- no idea how to even insert links! a friend had to come teach me how to use the "paint" feature on my computer to do illustrations (I already had it on the computer, just no idea how to use it).

  14. I don't have a blog, but if you follow me I probably won't call the cops. :-) And I would absolutely tell you if you had broccoli in your teeth. No question.

  15. Well I guess I am one of the one with the obvious name, because you follow me, but I didn't follow the requisite follow advise. Therefore for future blogs I choose to follow I will use this very simple directions, and as for our relationship.

    I love you too!

  16. Great post! I too get frustrated when I try to follow someone back and can't find their blog! I assume I'm all linked up but I better go check...

  17. Thanks for performing a valuable blogging public service in such a humorous way.

  18. Hi Julie,
Great post. I'm sure this will benefit many who don't already know how to do this. I will discuss this with the host team next week. We're a bit weary, and are taking this week to recoup before the reflections posts. If you haven't heard from me by 5/12 when we're done reflecting, please send me another email to jog my memory. We'd love to have you guest post.

  24. Google is striving hard to break this functionality.

I had no Add Links, though I had a link to my often underused technical blog.
I suppose it is because blogger feels I must use Google+ (I know, what's that?)
On my Google+ my links are correct....but my email addresses aren't mine....wtf

When you write a comment, it makes me feel like I won the lottery or at the very least like I ate an ice-cream sundae. (This has nothing to do with the fact that I did just eat an ice-cream sundae.)
